The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has declared 2023 the international year of millets, praising the grain’s ability to grow in arid soil with minimal inputs. For many farmers, 2023 could be the year they first meet millet. But Jean Hediger is wondering what took everyone else so long to catch up.
