WILMINGTON — Mary Ellen Barnhill, 74 of Wilmington, NC passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023. She was born August 11, 1949 in Wilmington, NC to Silas Elwood Sneeden Sr. and Mary Vivian Richards Sneeden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ronald James Barnhill, Jr.; sister Barbara Favreau and brothers: Elwood Sneeden and Glenn Sneeden. Nana was loved and respected by many.

She was a caregiver who treated all her children as if they were her very own and her home was a hangout for all. Mrs. Barnhill is survived by her daughters: Melanie Velie and husband Duane of Rocky Point, NC and Amy Bradley and husband Danny of Wilmington, NC; seven grandchildren: Mike Velie, Brandon Bradley, Jason Velie and wife Jaclyn, Meagan Sigman and husband Joseph, Mary Bradley, Zachary Bradley and Lindsey Rico and husband Jefte; great grandchildren: Emeline, Gannon, Sable and Davie; sisters: Elizabeth Louetta “Betty Lou” Sneeden and husband Mike Spencer and Dorothy Clark and husband Rex and brother Ronald Sneeden and wife Judy. A Visitation will be held from 6 p.m.

to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Coble Funeral Chapel, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC. The Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Northside Church with Rev. Ray Barnhill and Pastor Doug Faulk officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Kingdom Impact Church, PO Box 15941, Wilmington, North Carolina. Condolences may be sent to the family here.
