U.S. startup Avelo Airlines has opened a base at Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), boosting frequencies on its existing route from LAS and launching service to five more destinations over the next month. Avelo is basing one Boeing 737-700 configured to carry 147 passengers at LAS, where it will station at least 50 employees.

The airline says in a statement that it “is considering adding a second 737 in 2024, enabling additional destinations and LAS-based jobs.” Las Vegas becomes the carrier’s sixth base. Starting Sept. 8, the airline will up frequencies on its existing LAS service to Charles Schulz Sonoma County Airport in California from 2X-weekly to 4X-weekly.

On Sept. 7, the carrier launched 2X-weekly flights from LAS to Redmond Municipal Airport in Oregon. Avelo on Sept. 8 will open 2X-weekly service to two destinations from LAS: Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport in Texas and Humboldt County Airport in California. Starting Sept. 13, the airline will start 2X-weekly flights from LAS to Dubuque Regional Airport in Iowa.

Finally, starting Oct. 5, Avelo will launch 2X-weekly service from LAS to Salem Municipal Airport in Oregon. Avelo was founded in 2021 by CEO Andrew Levy, who previously served as president of Las Vegas-based ULCC Allegiant Air. “We are excited to start the exclusive nonstop access to Vegas that Avelo’s new base will offer our customers from these six communities, with more to come in the future,” he says.

“Vegas has something for everyone and Avelo’s affordability, convenience and reliability will make getting to this popular destination easier than ever.” LAS Director Rosemary Vassiliadis adds: “The Las Vegas valley is a great place to visit but also to call home. We are so excited for Avelo Airlines to not only expand its service ...

but to also add Las Vegas as a West Coast base creating jobs and opportunities in our community.” Avelo’s other five bases are in: Burbank, California; Wilmington, Delaware; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; Orlando, Florida; and New Haven, Connecticut.
