UPDATE September 15, 2023 5:50 p.m. Suwannee County Sheriff's Office shared the following update: "A joint statement from Sheriff Sam St John and Suwannee County Superintendent of Schools Ted Roush. Earlier this afternoon, schools in the Live Oak area were placed on lockdown based on students reporting seeing a suspicious individual who was allegedly carrying a weapon. Schools were placed on lockdown, while School Resource Officers, and local law enforcement officers searched the area. It was later discovered that it was a district employee who was walking while carrying an umbrella. We always encourage students to report information that they believe is concerning or a potential threat. School dismissal was delayed for approximately 20-30 minutes due to this incident. Special thanks to the Live Oak Police, Florida Highway Patrol, and Suwannee County Sheriff Office." ORIGINAL STORY: At least one school in Suwannee County was put on lock down Friday afternoon.

Video above from a viewer shows the response from parents and law enforcement. Suwannee County Sheriff's Office confirmed the following on Facebook: "This afternoon a call came out of a possible intruder on campus at Riverside Elementary School in Live Oak, FL. At this time, everything is safe and there are no known threats to students.

A joint statement from the Suwannee County School District and the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office will follow." ABC 27 reached out to the school district for comment, but they would not share any additional details over the phone. The sheriff's office confirmed the lock down had lifted when we called just after 3 p.m. This is a developing story.
