David A. Witt was born January 3, 1950, in South Bend, Indiana to Marshall and Marjorie Witt, who preceded him in death. Dave was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Witt, a sister, Thyra Sallows, and a sister-in-law, Suellen Goralczyk. Dave met the love of his life, Marilyn Anderson, at the age of 13 in 1963.

They would marry in 1970 and spent their lives together until Marilyn's passing in 2021. On Friday, June 30, 2023, Dave left us unexpectedly to be reunited with Marilyn. David's life will be celebrated on Friday, September 1, 2023. A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. until the service begins at 9:30 a.m.

at Palmer Funeral Home on Mishawaka Avenue in South Bend, Indiana. All family and friends are invited to gather in honoring David's life and service to his country with a full military service at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan at 1:00 p.m. on September 1st, where he will be laid in his final resting place. David was a proud member of the United States Air Force during which time he fought in the Vietnam War.

After completing his service, Dave began his 30-year career with the United States Postal Service. He worked at the downtown South Bend branch. David leaves a host of family and friends to mourn him, including his son, Gregory A. Witt (Joelle) and his daughter, Emily A. Witt, both of South Bend; grandchildren Ethan Dowling of South Bend, Kaitlyn and Connor Witt of New Braunfels, Texas and Bennett Strohan of Hondo, Texas.

David also leaves behind his brother, Michael Witt of Mena Arkansas, his sister, Marsha Rufer (Bruce) of South Bend, sister-in-law, Connie Witt of North Augusta, South Carolina, sister in-law- Barbara (Dan) Shepherd of Muncie, Indiana, a brother-in-law Kenny Goralczyk of South Bend, and brother-in-law Ed (Rita) Anderson of Woodlawn, Illinois.

He was everyone's favorite brother, uncle, co-worker and friend. It would take a whole page to list all of those whose lives he touched. There are also two good boys missing him fiercely right now - his golden retrievers Barney and Andy. Dave will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor.

After the love of his life, his bride of 51 years left this earth, Dave struggled to find his footing. The 635 days he spent without her proved to be too much. While we are left to muddle through this life without him, we know that he is with Marilyn and he is once again complete. Please see palmerfuneralhomes.com for full obituary.
