Let the family know you are thinking of them Samuel Howard Arant, 69, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas passed away September 2, 2023 at his residence. Sam, the son of Willie Howard Arant and Sammie Lee Haught was born in Midland, Texas on March 8, 1954. He attended school in Spring Hill, Texas, St. Louis, Missouri, and Friendswood, Texas.

He graduated from Friendswood High School in 1971 and from Texas Tech University in 1975 (B.S., Zoology). After graduating, he worked for several chemical companies in Metro Houston and then transitioned to the environmental health and safety field, starting his own company and later serving the State of Texas in their State Office of Risk Management. On August 4, 1979 Sam married Teresa Whealdon in Freeport, Texas.

He and Terry settled in Crosby, Texas until 1990 when they had their son, Matthew Clay Arant. Soon after they moved to the Austin area where they remained until retirement. Sam and Matt shared many activities including soccer, baseball, tennis, and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed being involved with First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown, Presbyterian Church of Salado, and Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.

He faithfully served as Deacon and as a representative for many committees. He also enjoyed cheering on the Houston Astros, San Antonio Spurs, and (his adopted college team) Arkansas Razorbacks and the comedic stylings of Larry David and Conan O'Brien. Surviving Sam are his wife, Terry, son Matt, sister-in-law Gayle Pitts and her husband John, brother-in-law Guy Whealdon, cousins Pat Mahaffey Burks and Bud Mahaffey.

Also surviving Sam are nieces Ann Gomez and April Parker, and nephews Kelly Pitts and Kerry Pitts, He also leaves behind his special companion and loving cocker spaniel Sadie Louise. Predeceasing him are his parents, Terry's parents Guy and Aline Whealdon and nephews Kevin Pitts and Kyle Pitts. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
