Mickey Rourke’s fans have taken to Twitter recently to share the actor’s photos from his younger days ahead of his 71st birthday. Mickey Rourke is best known for his iconic roles in Angel Heart, Year of the Dragon, Diner, Rumble Fish, and more. The actor is set to turn 71 on Saturday, September 16, and his fans are looking back at his younger days by sharing old pictures of him on Twitter.

Mickey famously left Hollywood to pursue boxing. His short-lived boxing career gave him some grave injuries that forced him to undergo plastic surgeries which completely changed his looks. Several of these pictures are from his early films. Some fans even looked back to his iconic movie roles too. Mickey started his acting career in the 80s. The star was in his late twenties and early thirties when he got his big breaks. His iconic roles such as Boogie in Diner (1982), and Harry Angel in Angel Heart (1987).

However, his great acting days came to a halt when he quit the profession in 1991 after a string of box office failures.

Mickey who had trained in boxing for years prior to his acting fame, chose to become a professional boxer at age 39. What happened to Mickey Rourke’s face? He shared that his changed look had resulted from botched plastic surgery. “Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing,” he shared, “but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together.” Star turns 71 on September 16 Mickey who was born on September 16, 1952, in Schenectady, New York turns 71 this year.

The actor’s parents divorced when he was still young. He has two siblings brother Joey and sister Patricia. As a teenager, Mickey trained in boxing. He won his first boxing match at age 12 in the 112-pound (51 kg) flyweight category. However, he soon turned his attention to acting.
