(EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team closed out its time at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational hosted by Oakland University with a 3-0 setback to the University of Missouri-Kansas City Saturday, Sept.

Freshman Hannah Howard (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) was named to the Golden Grizzlies All-Tournament Team for her defensive effort in both the win against Chicago State University, Sept. 8, and in the loss to the Roos where she led with 15 digs.

Callie Minshew (Brandon, Miss./Brandon/Mississippi State) continued to provide for the Eagles as she recorded her ninth consecutive match with double-digit team-leading kills with 11 against the Roos. How It Happened SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early hole, losing the first set 25-22.

Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as six points as Kansas City never gave up the lead. SET 2 | EMU then dropped set two 25-15 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Eagles lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set. SET 3 | Kansas City finished the sweep with a set-three win.

The Eagles fell in a tough set 25-13 and trailed by as many as 12 points as UMKC grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up three times before the Roos took over the lead. Mach Notes » Minshew led EMU in the setback in terms of kills (11), service aces (2), blocks (2), and points (14.0).

It was the ninth consecutive match where the graduate student posted double-digit kills this season and the 28th of her career. » Howard led the team in digs for just the second time of her early career with 15 against the Roos, four short of her career-high 19 set in the victory over Chicago State, Sept.

8. » The last time EMU fell in three-straight sets was during the 2022 season when the Eagles fell to Central Michigan University, 3-0, Nov. 16, 2022. In addition to the three-set win over Chicago State the day before, it was just the second match this season that has ended in a three-set decision (1-1).

Last season, the team competed in 12 three-set matches (3-9). Up Next Following the Golden Grizzlies Invitational in Rochester, Mich., the team will take a trip to Chattanooga, Tenn. to partake in the Chattanooga Classic, the final non-conference tournament of the season, hosted by the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Sept.

15-16. The Eagles are scheduled to face the tournament hosts, Friday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. before meeting with Gardner-Webb University and Morehead State University Saturday, Sept. 16. Those matches are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.
