Callie Minshew (Brandon, Miss./Brandon/Mississippi State) continued to provide for the Eagles as she recorded her ninth consecutive match with double-digit team-leading kills with 11 against the Roos. How It Happened SET 1 | The Eagles found themselves in an early hole, losing the first set 25-22.
Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as six points as Kansas City never gave up the lead. SET 2 | EMU then dropped set two 25-15 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Eagles lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set. SET 3 | Kansas City finished the sweep with a set-three win.
The Eagles fell in a tough set 25-13 and trailed by as many as 12 points as UMKC grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up three times before the Roos took over the lead. 8. » The last time EMU fell in three-straight sets was during the 2022 season when the Eagles fell to Central Michigan University, 3-0, Nov. 16, 2022. In addition to the three-set win over Chicago State the day before, it was just the second match this season that has ended in a three-set decision (1-1).
Last season, the team competed in 12 three-set matches (3-9). 15-16. The Eagles are scheduled to face the tournament hosts, Friday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. before meeting with Gardner-Webb University and Morehead State University Saturday, Sept. 16. Those matches are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.
