LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Junior Amanda Sambach turned in a ninth-place performance to lead the UVA women’s golf team to an eighth-place finish at its seasons-opening ANNIKA Intercollegiate tournament. The Cavaliers shot 2-over 290 during Wednesday’s final round for a 54-hole total of 1-over 865. South Carolina won the event at 26-under 838. Sambach posted a bogey-free round of 4-under 68 during the final round for a three-day total of 6-under 210.
She finished just two shots behind a quartet of players who tied for first at 208. It marked the 11th time in her UVA career she has recorded a top-10 finish. Last year, Sambach was the medalist at the event. UVA freshman Jaclyn LaHa shot even par 72 during the final round to place 29th in her collegiate debut at 1-over 217.
Megan Propeck was 38th at 220, Rebecca Skoler was 45th at 223 and Celeste Valinho was 47th at 224. Propeck shot 76 during the final day of play while Skoler carded a round of 74 and Valinho finished with a 78. The 12-team field featured 10 teams ranked in the current top-30 of the Golfweek poll. The tournament was held at Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn. UVA returns to the Midwest for the Glass City Intercollegiate at Inverness Country Club in Toledo, Ohio, on Sept.
