TEXARKANA, Texas -- A minor child was killed Thursday in a vehicle accident on Interstate 30. The driver of a Jeep Liberty, Karmyn Aleman, 30, of Hooks, was treated and released for non-incapacitating injuries. A female juvenile passenger in the Jeep was transported to an area hospital where she died from her injuries, according to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety. One other juvenile passenger in the vehicle was treated and released. Troopers responded at 3:20 p.m.
to the crash near the 212 mile marker just west of Leary, according to the report. The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2021 Freightliner truck-tractor towing a trailer was traveling westbound on I-30 in the right lane and had slowed down due to road construction. A 2006 Jeep Liberty was traveling behind the trailer.
For an as yet undetermined reason, the driver of the Liberty failed to control the vehicle's speed and stuck the back of the trailer, according to the report. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured. Traffic moved very slowly for a couple of hours on I-30 due to the accident. The crash remains under investigation.
