Council approves resolution authorizing land purchase for affordable housing, economic development

The North Bend City Council has unanimously approved a resolution to purchase land for affordable housing efforts. The purchase will also help address the workforce shortage in the area. The city has entered into escrow for a property in downtown North Bend, with funding provided by the Real Estate Excise Tax. Economic Development Manager James Henderson presented options for promoting affordable housing, including subsidies and rehabilitation. Property acquisition was deemed the best option for long-term affordability with minimal administrative burden. Once the land is acquired, proposals from affordable housing providers will be solicited for development. A recording of the council meeting can be found on the city's Media Center.
