A A+ A++ A+++
North Bend has implemented a series of roundabouts over the past two decades to improve traffic flow and safety. The first roundabout was completed in 2008 at the intersection of North Bend Way and Cedar Falls Way, earning an award for Best City Project. Since then, three more roundabouts have been constructed, with plans for another at Bendigo Boulevard/State Route 202 and Mt. Si Boulevard. Roundabouts are beneficial as they reduce fatal crashes by 90% and car-crash injuries by at least 75%, while accommodating higher volumes of cars. They also alleviate congestion, increase traffic capacity by 30-50%, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, preserve viewsheds, reduce noise pollution, and are less expensive to operate and maintain than traffic signals. Instructions on how to drive single-lane and multi-lane roundabouts are provided, along with videos for further guidance. It is important to note that walking onto or exiting the center islands of roundabouts is not safe or permitted.
