Wildlife officials in Alaska have culled 180 brown bears on caribou calving grounds in Southwest Alaska within a year to aid in the restoration of the Mulchatna herd. The culling was carried out by shooting from helicopters between May 10 and June 5, resulting in the elimination of 81 brown bears and 15 wolves across a vast area of tundra.
