Juneteenth in Spokane celebrates the anniversary of General Gordon Granger's announcement of freedom to enslaved black Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865. The City invites the community to various events including a kickoff event, Pillar Awards show, community celebrations with music and food, a Father's Day brunch, and a Spokane Indians King Carl Night honoring civil rights activist Carl Maxey. Spokane City Hall, Municipal Court, and Public Library branches are closed on Juneteenth with free parking at meters and kiosks.
