Spokane Tribal Member Found Guilty of Assaulting His Partner with a Knife and Attempting to Suffocate Her

Marvin Samson Butterfly, a 40-year-old member of the Spokane Tribe, was found guilty of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault of an Intimate Partner, Attempted Suffocation, and Witness Tampering in Indian Country. The incident involved Butterfly assaulting his partner with a knife and attempting to suffocate her. He also tried to tamper with a witness while in jail. U.S. Attorney Waldref emphasized the importance of addressing violence in Native American communities and building safer environments through collaboration between tribal and federal law enforcement agencies. Sentencing is scheduled for July 10, 2024.
