Bengaluru: Twelve of the 24-member Indian contingent travelling to Spokane, Washington, for the BWF Junior World Championships have got their US visa interview dates. They have been asked to report to New Delhi by Wednesday night with the interview scheduled for Thursday morning. On Tuesday, the contingent received the 12 names with the dates for the interview with a message reading, “…..Players and the coaching staff must reach Delhi by September 13 night and report 8:30am sharp at the US embassy (on September 14).”The rest of the players, including ace shuttler Unnati Hooda, will have to fly to Chennai while another may have to leave for Mumbai for the interview.
No dates have been fixed yet.With the contingent set to leave on September 22 for the event, which begins on September 25, the Badminton Association of India is in touch with authorities, including the Union sports ministry and the Sports Authority of India, to hasten the process.“It is just a matter of time, we are 100 percent confident that the others will also get their dates scheduled this week.
BAI has already written to the Chennai consulate, SAI too has written to them, but we have not got a reply from them yet. We are even ready to send our players and staff at short notice, but the important thing is we need to get the dates, ” a BAI source told TOI.Interestingly, with the Junior National Badminton Championships having concluded here on Tuesday, some of the players left for Guwahati on Tuesday to resume training at the National camp.
They will leave for Delhi from the Assamese city on Wednesday.
