Chef Jan Parker, who fell in love with food while living in Italy as a child, has successfully raised $71,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to open her own Filipino restaurant in Downtown Tacoma. Parker trained in classic European cooking but became more interested in Filipino cuisine when she realized how much she missed it while her husband was stationed abroad. She started her own food business in 2017 and has been popping up at different events like farmers markets. The planned restaurant, called Reyna, will be her first brick and mortar operation and will focus on brunch. Parker hopes to provide more spaces for Filipinos to gather and celebrate their culture through the restaurant. The location of the restaurant has not yet been disclosed.
