The Northwest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Processing Center in Tacoma, Washington, is a for-profit detention center with a history of human rights violations, including withholding medical care and excessive use of solitary confinement. After an immigrant detainee committed suicide there, leading to more suicide attempts and a hunger strike by other detainees, La Resistencia Northwest has been protesting conditions at the center for the past 10 years. The group aims to shut down the center and end deportations. Maru Mora Villalpando, founder of La Resistencia, shares her journey from being undocumented to advocating for immigrant rights through civil disobedience. Rufina Reyes, also part of La Resistencia's leadership team, joined the group after her brother was detained at the center. She continues to fight for justice for detainees facing similar struggles.
