Juneteenth Freedom Celebration -

The Juneteenth Freedom Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Esther Short Park in Vancouver, Washington. This free event, organized by Odyssey World International Education Services and the City of Vancouver, features live music performances, local vendors, an interactive history display, and family activities. Juneteenth commemorates the liberation of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas in 1865 by Union soldiers, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Although officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth has been celebrated by Black Americans for over a century. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up online for this event.
