A group of 12 Korean trade officials, mostly grain buyers, embarked on a week-long tour of trading facilities, farms, ports, and terminals in the Midwest and West Coast. Organized by Guy Allen from Kansas State University's Department of Grain Science and Industry, the expedition was sponsored by KOAA to promote Korean agricultural business globalization. The participants visited key locations such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, various grain companies' facilities, a farm in Illinois, and transportation hubs like the Mel Price Lock and Dam in St. Louis. The tour continued to Portland where they explored barge transportation facilities and met with industry representatives. The group also visited wheat-related organizations and export terminals before enjoying a dinner cruise in Portland. Allen highlighted the changing trade dynamics impacting Asian markets like China due to evolving supply chain strategies. Such trips are valuable for fostering international trade relationships and understanding market shifts.
