Rotschy LLC, a construction company in Vancouver, Washington, has been fined over $200,000 for violating child labor laws and safety regulations after a 16-year-old employee lost both legs in a workplace incident. The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) imposed penalties for inadequate training, underage workers operating dangerous equipment, and other violations. Rotschy allowed minors to work with heavy machinery, skipped mandated breaks, and exceeded permitted work hours for young employees. L&I suspended Rotschy's student learner exemption and received payment for fines but the company has appealed a previous safety citation.
