The U.S. Pacific Northwest, including Portland and Washington state, is facing a third heat wave of the summer with rising temperatures. Excessive heat warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service for various areas. Oregon Governor Kate Brown declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the heat, urging precautions against heat-related illnesses. Power grids may be strained during the hottest days expected later in the week due to a high-pressure dome over the region. The same weather conditions that caused a previous heatwave in July are also contributing to wildfires, such as the Dixie Fire in Northern California, which has burned 500,000 acres and resulted in injuries.
