Special Weather Statement issued December 2 at 7:45PM EST

Alert Icon Weather Alerts

Locally dense fog is now developing in many areas between the Blue
Ridge and the Interstate 95 corridor, as a steady light to
moderate rain begins to overspread the area. This is reducing
visibility to one mile or less. As the fog expands and thickens
tonight, expect Dense Fog Advisories to be issued.

Dense fog is hazardous if driving at high speeds. Be prepared for
rapidly changing visibility. Slow down, increase following
distance, and use low beam headlights when encountering dense fog.

Special Weather Statement issued November 18 at 2:59AM EST

Alert Icon Weather Alerts

Elevated fire weather conditions are expected this afternoon across
northern and central Virginia, western, central, northeast, and
southern Maryland, eastern West Virginia, and the District of
Columbia. This risk covers all areas east of the Allegheny Front.
Relative humidity values are expected to drop back to around 25 to
35 percent this afternoon (lowest in the Shenandoah Valley). Winds
will be out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to around 25
mph in most locations, but locally higher along the Blue Ridge
Mountains (30 mph). 10-hour fuel moisture will be as low as 10
percent.

Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution if handling
open flames or equipment that creates sparks. Also, dispose of
cigarette butts, matches, and other flammable items in appropriate
containers. Keep vehicles off of dry grass and obey local burn bans.
Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily
ignite and spread fire quickly.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. For more information about
wildfire danger, burn restrictions, and wildfire prevention and
education, please visit your state's forestry or environmental
protection Website.
