Greensboro, the Hale County seat, is 17 miles (27 km) to the southeast. Eutaw is 14 miles (23 km) by road to the southwest, and Moundville is the same distance to the northeast. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Akron has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), of which 0.004 square miles (0.01 km2), or 0.77%, is water.
