Pembroke has a population of 2997. 48.8% of Pembroke’s inhabitants are Male, and 51.2 are female. 18.1% of Pembroke is married and 26.9% own their own home. The Average Home price is $94,899, and the average rent is $606. Household median income in Pembroke is $21,786, and the individual median income is $20,310. Pembroke’s Ethnic is the following: Native(53.5%), Black(22.7%), White(16.8%), Multiple(5.4%), Hispanic(2.8%), Other(1%), Asian(0.7%).
According to the 2000 census, there were 2,399 people, 961 households, and 611 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,023.9 people per square mile (395.8/km2). There were 1,043 housing units at an average density of 445.1 per square mile (172.1/km2). The racial makeup of the town was: 88.90% Native American 8.15% White 2.20% African American 0.54% Asian 0.00% Pacific Islander 0.53% from other races 0.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.08% of the population.There were 961 households, out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 27.3% were married couples living together, 32.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.4% were non-families.
32.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.12. In the town, the population was spread out, with 34.8% under the age of 18, 11.5% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median age was 27 years. For every 100 females, there were 75.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 64.9 males. The median income for a household in the town was $18,355, and the median income for a family was $21,218. Males had a median income of $26,875 versus $21,510 for females.
The per capita income for the town was $10,202. About 39.9% of families and 40.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 54.3% of those under age 18 and 34.1% of those age 65 or over. According to the 2010 US Census, the population was 2,937. Of this, 1,975 (66.43%) were American Indian or Alaska Native, 489 (16.45%) were White, 367 (12.34%) were Black or African American, 101 (3.40%) were two or more races, 18 (0.61%) were some other race, 17 (0.57%) were Asian, 6 (0.20%) were Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.
