Alert Icon Weather Alerts

A lack of recent rainfall has allowed fine fuels to dry out across
eastern New York. A dry air mass with relative humidities as low
as 20 percent and west-southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph gusting to
30 mph may result in the rapid spread of fires if ignition
occurs.

Although the NYS burn ban is no longer in effect, burning is not
recommended across eastern New York due to the dry and breezy
conditions.

The risk for rapid fire spread may increase Wednesday afternoon.

..CONDITIONS FAVORABLE FOR RAPID FIRE SPREAD THIS AFTERNOON AND
AGAIN WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...

A lack of recent rainfall has allowed fine fuels to dry out across
eastern New York. A dry air mass with relative humidities as low
as 20 percent and west-southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph gusting to
30 mph this afternoon may result in the rapid spread of fires if
ignition occurs.

Wednesday will be much cooler than today, however relative
humidity values will once again fall below 30 percent and north to
northwesterly winds will gust as high as 25 mph. Once again this
may result in the rapid spread of fires if ignition occurs.

Although the NYS burn ban is no longer in effect, burning is not
recommended across eastern New York due to the dry and breezy
conditions.
