Letter: Can America continue under a “divided house?”

Our Gospel reading on a recent Sunday was taken from Mark 3:20-35. What got me thinking were versus 24 and 25. “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.”

Advocates press for race riot national monument in Illinois

Community advocates and local politicians urged the Biden administration Monday to designate the site of a deadly 1908 race riot in Springfield, Illinois, as a national monument.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) called the riot “a searing, horrific incident that galvanized the creation of the NAACP” and said the site deserves federal protection.
