Shelby Nominates Madison County Students to United States Service Academies

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that he has nominated 43 students from across the state of Alabama, including nine from Madison County, to attend United States service academies. The service academies include the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Benjamin Mark Arn of Madison, Alabama, received a nomination to attend the U.S. Military Academy. He is the son of Sheila and Mark Arn.

GA-ASI Awarded Work on Novel Seaplane

The Pentagon has tapped General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. to conduct research and development on an experimental seaplane concept called Liberty Lifter.

The Poway company received a contract from DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, on Nov. 25.

The value of the deal is $7.97 million, excluding unexercised options. Some $6.2 million in research and development funds from fiscal 2022 were obligated at the time of award.
