Contractors settle Gold King Mine case for $5M

The state of New Mexico has reached a $5 million settlement with contractors that caused the 2015 Gold King Mine spill, bringing an end to the state’s litigation over the environmental disaster.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced the settlement Thursday with Environmental Restoration LLC and Western Solutions Inc.

In all, the state will receive $48 million in settlements.
