Campus partners with city to research tree canopy impact

When the city of South Bend set out on a mission to double its tree canopy coverage, officials turned to Indiana University South Bend to help with the research needed to make that happen.

Several academic disciplines on campus are taking part in the project to help the city create and maintain healthy environments that support creating a 40 percent tree canopy coverage by 2050. IU South Bend teams with local groups to encourage wellness, love of reading

Meeting people where they’re comfortable is huge when trying to open doors and build relationships. Indiana University South Bend and 100 Black Men of Greater South Bend are taking that to heart with two different programs.

The organizations partnered with local barber shops to provide health screenings for men and to develop a love for reading in boys.
