Harmful algal bloom prompts warning on Ohio River at Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Health Department is warning residents to use caution around the Ohio River because a "harmful algal bloom" is occurring in the vicinity.

Blooms of blue-green algae, known as Cyanobacteria, are happening upstream and downstream of Cincinnati as well.

Officials in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky said that the city's drinking water is safe, but residents should use caution when swimming or doing other activities on the river.

Elderly woman killed in early morning Ripley house fire

RIPLEY, Ohio — A woman is dead after an early morning house fire in Ripley, investigators said.

It started just after 1 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Hamburg Street.

The village of Ripley's Fire Chief Tony Pfeffer said neighbors heard lots of dogs barking and when they went outside to see what was going on, they saw their neighbor's house on fire and called 911.
