Kansas man sentenced for killing ex-girlfriend and burying her in shallow grave

OMAHA, Neb. (TCD) — A Kansas man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend, burying her body in a shallow grave in another state, and fleeing to Central America.

KETV-TV reports Aldrick Scott was sentenced May 30, about two months after he was found guilty of first-degree murder, use of a weapon, and tampering with evidence for the November 2022 killing of Cari Allen. The judge also handed him a sentence of 45 to 60 years for the last two charges, plus 532 days of time served.

Kansas district courts finish working through backlog of paper filings

TOPEKA—Kansas district courts affected by an Oct. 12 cybersecurity incident have finished working through a backlog of new cases and paper documents filed while court information systems were offline from mid-October to early January.
