$69.4 million school budget goes to South Portland voters

South Portland residents will vote June 11 on a $69.4 million school budget, up nearly 5% from this year’s.

Roughly $52.9 million will be funded through taxes, a 3.8% increase over this year.

The City Council agreed last week to send the $69,354,601 budget out for the validation vote. The final proposal is roughly $76,000 less than what the school department proposed to the council in April, despite adding $100,000 for a mental health and student intervention leadership position and $25,000 toward security, among oth ... High-speed pursuit in Epping ends with Maine man’s arrest

EPPING — A high-speed chase that began on Route 101 and continued onto Interstate 95 ended late Tuesday night with the arrest of a South Portland, Maine man who was later released on personal recognizance bail.

At around 9:21 p.m., state troopers from Troop A Barracks were alerted to a vehicle that had evaded Epping Police Department officers.

The vehicle, a silver 2005 Honda Accord, was spotted by Trooper Brian Hanna traveling eastbound on Route 101 near Exit 10 in Exeter at speeds exceeding 120 mph.
