Pennsylvania college leader will become USM’s new president

The leader of a campus in Pennsylvania’s state university system will become the next president of the University of Southern Maine.

Jacqueline Edmondson will become the 18th president of the University of Maine system’s second-largest institution on July 1, replacing Glenn Cummings. The University of Southern Maine has campuses in Portland, Gorham and Lewiston and enrolls more than 6,000 students.

DWG National Park to close River Road so amphibians can cross on warm, wet nights

MIDDLE SMITHFIELD, Pennsylvania — River Road on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area will close on warm, rainy nights to allow amphibians to cross the road to get to spawning pools.

The National Park Service closes the road from park headquarters to Hialeah Picnic Area when conditions are right for salamanders and other amphibians to crawl from their hillside habitat to vernal pools for breeding season.
