High water pollution levels found near closed landfill in Accomack

High nitrogen levels found in surface and ground water near a closed landfill in Accomack should continue to be monitored, according to a county consultant.

The southern landfill in Bobtown officially ceased operations on Dec. 31, 2012. The landfill, which was unlined, was closed and capped during 2013 at a cost of around $2.5 million, and a solid waste transfer station was constructed at the site.

Man accidentally shoots himself at Onley Walmart

According to Sheriff Todd E. Godwin at approximately 2:11 PM on November 30, 2019, the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound at Walmart in Onley, Virginia.
